Zero (0) is a very interesting numerical. Place it on the extreme left of any number, and that number changes. For instance, placing it besides 100, changes the number to 1,000. But, multiply the same 100 by 0 and you get 0!

That is how powerful the number 0 is.

If zero negates every number it is multiplied with, does it make sense to have zero focus?

What is the Meaning of Focus?

Finding Clarity

According to The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary focus has the following meanings:-

  1. Giving attention or effort to one particular subject, situation or person rather than another.
  2. Adapting or to be adjusted (camera, lens, light) so that things can be seen clearly.

We live in our world that is awash with numerous things that fight for our focus. It is nearly impossible to focus on anything without getting distracted.

What with the need to check out the latest episode of Stranger Things? What about the constant buzzing notification of a new text message? Even when we go to the most quiet place in the world, the chirp of the birds can still distract us.

I have two small cousins – Darren and Cillian – who often want to talk as I work or read. At first, their constant chatter used to exasperate me. Then one day, I realized I had to learn how to co-exist with them. Since then, I am able to focus on the things that matter the most to me.

It is a win-win situation because we now enjoy each other’s company. They are happy to have the attention of their favourite cousin. On the other hand, I get to valuable lessons that I use as a coach.

The Power of Zero Focus

You can focus and allow distractions to disrupt your attention. However, when you give something zero focus, you regain power of distractions. Focusing on one thing and doing it well is a door opener.

It enables you to master that one thing that you are good at. Focus defines you and helps you to have rest and peace of mind. It enables you to achieve your goals in life. Zero focus enables you to be skilled in your trade. Better still, it brings you before kings and avails treasures to you.

“Do you see a man skilled in his work?  He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.”

Proverbs 22:19

There is a talk on TEDx by Cobhams Asuquo titled ‘The Gift of Blindness.’ Despite being blind, Asuquo has nurtured many singers in Nigeria. He has managed to achieve this by mastering the art of zero focusing.

In many of his speaking engagements, Asaquo encourages and challenges people to be blind where the art of focusing is concerned. His outlook in life is a lesson that is worth sharing. Here are the 3 things that Asuquo advices:-

  1. Do not excuse failure for any reason, on any account
  2. Trust, even when there’s no reason to
  3. Be blind, to be focused

Why Zero Focus is Important

Having zero focus is very important. It enables us to find clarity for our goal setting and life purpose. You won’t achieve your goals unless you zero in on something and give it all of your focus.

I urge and encourage you to find something you can (zero) focus on. Whatever it is, I pray that God will give you the courage, strength and the resources that you need to accomplish your goal.

I also pray that you will turn a blind eye to the distractions that will prevent you from focusing. And just like Cobhams Asuquo – who I am looking forward to meeting one day – I hope you will enjoy the fruits of your focus and that your story will be the inspiration that will spur someone else into focused living.

I hope that the Power of Zero Focus post has inspired you to strive for excellence. Feel free to contact me via phone or email for tools that will enable you to find clarity. I look forward to hearing from you.

“I had to prove that there are many things I can do because I’m blind, and that there are many things I have done because I’m blind,”
